FORMALDEHYDE RESIDUES
Premier Analytical Services has developed an HPLC technique that uses derivatisation of formaldehyde to a fluorescent form to give specific and highly sensitive detection.
The method is UKAS accredited for the analysis of packaging and paper products where skin contact is possible (e.g baby wipes). More recently, the technique has been applied to testing for formaldehyde residues in mushrooms. Formaldehyde is used as a soil treatment in mushroom growing and this was probably the source of a very high residue level found previously in Shiitake mushrooms.
